All content in the Content Management System (CMS) has a content ID or node ID number. This is automatically generated at time of creation.
Why are node IDs important
As every node ID is unique, this helps in:
- accurately identifying the page you and your team are working on
- creating a link to this page from another on the site
- easily searching for a page in the content library.
When you create a link to this page from another on the site it's called an internal link. Internal links that link via the node ID (instead of the URL of nsw.gov.au/your-page) are excellent because they don't break if you update the page title, URL, or move the page to a different section within the website.
How to find the node ID
The node ID for your content can be found in 3 places:
-
In the ID column of the Content page.
-
On a box on the top-right of the Edit content page of your content.
- From your published website you can hover your mouse cursor over the 'Live published' button and the node will show in the bottom left corner within the URL after the /node/. This example shows that the homepage has a node ID of '1'.
