Using a form summary

Have more questions? Submit a request

A form summary displays all the questions and answers provided in the form, which allows website visitors to review their responses before they submit.

When you should use a form summary

  • For forms that span across multiple steps or pages
  • For forms that have multiple sections or questions
  • For forms that collect important or sensitive information where errors could have consequences

When you should avoid using a form summary

  • For forms that don't span across multiple sections, steps or sections
  • If the form does not ask for critical or important details
  • If the information captured in the form is already displayed in an easily accessible way

Guidelines

Do:

  • Allow users to edit responses from the summary to make it easy to correct any incorrect or incomplete answers
  • Show a summary if the form spans multiple steps

Don't:

  • Use for forms that only has one step as it may be repetitive

Show or hide a form summary

To show a form summary in a webform:

  1. Navigate to Structure > Webforms > Forms and locate your webform by typing its name into the search
  2. Navigate to Settings > Form
  3. Go to the Form preview settings accordion and select one of the radio buttons in the Enable preview page section
    • Disabled: Hides the form summary so it is not shown
    • Optional: Gives an option for the website visitor to view the form summary, but they don't need to view the summary before they submit the form
    • Required: Shows the form summary, and the website visitor must view the summary before they can submit the form

Styling the form summary

Styling the form summary will allow the responses to be grouped by step, with the ability to go back to each webform step to modify responses if required. This configuration is highly recommended otherwise the form summary will not be displayed properly.

Enable ability to go back to a step from the summary:

  1. Navigate to Settings > Form
  2. On the Form wizard settings accordion, select the Link to previous pages in preview checkbox

Group questions and answers by step:

  1. Navigate to Build > Elements
  2. On each of the rows that have the Wizard page type, select the Edit button to edit the page
  3. Navigate to the Advanced tab, and then to the Submission display accordion
  4. In the Single item section, open the Item format dropdown and select the Fieldset (fieldset) option
  5. Select the Save elements button
