Use the Rules search and filter to easily display all of your Rules pages. Results will show in a listing with the ability to search and filter them.

Using the filter

Do

  • Use on landing pages to list large amounts of Rules with the ability to search and filter them
  • Limit other components on your page. The page should mostly be dedicated to the Rules search and filter component. If you add other elements to the page, such as a summary or call out, position the Rules search and filter component last on the page
  • Add a heading above the Rules search and filter

Don't

  • Add more than 1 Rules search and filter component to your landing page
  • Use for small numbers of Rules - the automated listing component for Rules may work better and can be added as part of other landing pages, rather than as a stand-alone element

Adding the Rules search and filter on a landing page

  1. Create a new full width section and click Add block
  2. In the Choose a block screen, search for DCS Rules Finder and select the component from the search results. The Configure block screen will open and you can adjust the settings
  3. Title field: this can be left with the default text or customised. The title will not be visible publicly
  4. In the first section, the Results set filters, add the general filters that you want to customise your finder for. These include: Agencies, Audiences, and Topic
  5. You can use the Filters title field to create a title for the filters on the left. For example, Filter all rules
  6. The Keyword search accordion can be left with the default settings or customised

  7. The Tag filters accordion is where you provide what filters will be available to users on the left of the listings. For this finder, this section only has an 'Add more' button when you first open it. Click Add more to see the first set of fields
  8. To use these Tag filters, as an example, if you have chosen the Result set filter as ‘Agency’ (in step 4), you may want to add the Vocabulary in the Tag filters as ‘Topic’ for users to sort through the results based on the different topic tags that your agency has applied to your rules.
  9. In the Terms field you can choose the names of the specific topics. They will appear as you type. If you are adding multiple terms, use a comma to separate each, for example ‘Housing and construction (446), Business and economy (17)’.
Note: If you do not use the Terms field all tags available on nsw.gov.au within that Vocabulary set will show on your page.
  10. You can add multiple filters, for example Agency, Audience, Topic, Category and more, as long as those tags have been applied to your Rules.
  11. Important: for Rules, the Category tags may become crucial to make sure only the specific subset of Rules you want to filter for is being pulled in.
  12. You should also update the Tag filter label above the Vocabulary to reflect the filter type you are applying.
Note: for your tag filter to function, your Rules must have all the relevant tags added to them.
  13. You can leave the Date range with the default setting of ‘on’ or turn it off.
  14. Click Update to save.

How the Rules search and filter component displays

When you place this component onto a Landing page, it should include all the standard Landing page components (Hero block, Page title, summary, image (if supplied)), as in this example:
