Search engines such as Google, have web crawlers which look at the content on the web page and bring it up into the search results for users. The more the page is optimised with the different SEO techniques, the more likely the page will come up higher in targeted search results.
Follow the checklist to ensure your webpage is optimised for SEO:
SEO keyword research before writing
Keywords
- Have a primary keyword for your planned content. This is the keyword that your audience searches for.
- Have 2-3 relevant secondary keywords to your planned content.
- Searched Google using the primary keyword.
- Reviewed pages that rank for this keyword to understand what the intent behind it is.
- Understood what content users often engage with when searching for that term.
SEO techniques while writing the content
Title
- Title/headline of the page has the primary keyword.
- Title/headline of the page is between 30-70 characters (inclusive of whitespaces).
Summary
- Summary includes secondary keywords and starts with a call-to-action.
- Summary is between 120-160 characters in length (inclusive of whitespaces).
Headings
- Sub-headings (H2, H3, H4) include secondary keywords.
- Sub-headings follow a logical structure and use question-and-answer format where possible.
Keywords
- Keywords appear naturally and the copy does not feel hyper-focused on keywords.
Content format
- Content uses tables, bulleted list, and question-and-answer format to help appear for relevant searches.
Anchor text
- Anchor texts and links are descriptive and not generic (e.g., read more or click here.)
Readability
- The content meets readability target (14-15 years old) if possible.
URL
- URL is well structured and not repetitive. The page has an optimised URL slug if needed.
Images
- Images all have file names with keywords included. They also have ALT tags.
Duplication
- Is the page a duplicate of another page? Can it show up in search? If not, is there a noindex tag?

- Are there any broken links on the page?
Updating
- Is there any update required to keep the content fresh?
TUTD
- Have you received any feedback to be addressed? Did anything show up in the TUTD dashboard ?
Redirections
- Do you need to archive the page? If so, can you apply redirection?
