Walks Near Me is a free online map that helps people discover and walk to great public spaces wherever they are in NSW. There are over 26,000 places to be explored across NSW, from golden beaches and lush bushlands, to vibrant streets and charming art galleries. Walks Near Me is making these places easier to find and enjoy.
From the map, users can build their own walking itineraries and learn more about the interesting places to see and experience near them.
Walks Near Me setup
In collaboration with Transport for NSW, Walks Near Me is built on a landing page that uses a map component. The map references over 26,000 data points to show the various destinations and activities around the user's chosen location.
Content shown on the map pin pop-ups are created using datasets sourced from either the Australian Tourism Data Warehouse (ATDW) or the Department of Customer Service's Spatial Services. The data between these sources and the nsw.gov.au Content Management System (CMS) are synced every day, so content is always up-to-date. Furthermore, data from the ATDW are also available as dynamic pages that can be linked from other agency pages where desired.
