Adding a section on a landing page

Sections determine the layout of a landing page. They also provide the foundation for adding custom blocks to the page. Follow the steps below to add a new section on your nsw.gov.au landing page:

  1. Once you have created a landing page and saved it as a draft, click on 'preview'. Then click on Pre-Published Draft > Layout.

  2. Scroll down the page and click on 'Add section'.

  3. Select the appropriate column format for the section you are creating.

    • Use Full width, Three quarters / Quarter - Large gutter, Two thirds / Third - Large gutter, Halves - Stretch height of blocks, Card container

      • Full: generally for videos, section heading 'Welcome to ____'.

      • Edge to edge: only for headers and some components.

    • Large gutter means there is more space between the columns

Tip: consider the use of white space to improve the accessibility of your page. More space allows 'breathing room' for viewers to absorb content on your page. Little space allows content to flow more continuously.

  4. Label your chosen column by filling in the 'Administrative label field'

  5. You have the option to select whether you would like the section to have a Grey background. This is under the Style drop-down. If you do not select a Grey background, the background of the section will remain white.

    • Use the Grey background sparingly. Generally you would use it to highlight a specific section such as a section with a Call-to-Action (CTA).

    • Do not use more Grey background sections than the standard white background.

  6. Click on 'Add section'

  7. You can then begin to add in blocks to your new section. Head over to Adding a custom block on a landing page to do this.

Keep note of these when adding sections on your page

  • Once you have chosen the column format, you cannot change it. To change column formats, create a new section, select the correct column format, then re-add the blocks to this new section. Once all set up, click on the cross icon on the top-left of the previous/obsolete section, then select 'Remove' to remove the section.

  • Keep the page layout as tidy as possible by removing any empty sections.
