Troubleshooting guide for title hero banner

Title (Hero) banners appear at the top of Landing pages, underneath the breadcrumbs to display the page title and summary. Sometimes they will also appear on some Standard pages but with limited functionality.

Across the nsw.gov.au site there are a wide variety of ways that you can configure your title hero banner including changing the colour, adding images and displaying links or buttons.

Here are some common issues that editors run into, and how to fix them.

The page summary won't update when I save it

The title banner on almost all content types is changed using the 'Content summary' tab in the 'edit content' view of the page, like below.

The Content summary of a page showing the summary for the 'nsw.gov.au domain names' page.

However, sometimes when a landing page is created the auto-generated title banner is replaced with a 'hero banner'. Hero banners allow you to add colors, images, links and buttons to your title banner.

Try entering the 'layout' view of your landing page and clicking on the pen icon in the top right of the title banner. If the block description says 'Hero Banner' it means that you will need to update the page heading and summary here.

Please note that you should still update the summary section in the 'edit content' view of the page for search engine optimisation.

The image in my hero banner isn't properly aligned

Images in hero banners must be selected from the CMS media library. If the image you have selected isn't aligning correctly try this.

  1. Find the media file in the CMS media library.
  2. Drag the  '+' on the preview of the image to adjust the 'focal point' of the image
The white plus icon in front of the image preview.
Please note that this will change the focal point of the image across the entire site, not just on the page you're editing, so please ensure that you have checked with the image owner that the focal point can be changed and that changing the focal point won't affect other usage of this image on the site.

  3. Click 'save' and refresh the page you were working on the see how the image has refocused.

How to add a Call to Action button in my hero banner

Call to Action buttons can be added to a Hero banner but you must know the Node Id for the page you want to link to.

The most simple way to identify a Node for a page is to use the 2nd link icon in the WYSIWYG toolbar.

1. Click on the link icon in the WYSIWYG toolbar

The link icon to the left of the flag icon.

2. Start typing the name of the content page you need the Node ID for

Search results for 'commemorative marriage cert' on the Link URL pop-up window.

3. Select the correct page from the drop down list

4. Make a note of the Node and ID as it appears validated in the URL Address field.

The node and ID for the selected link inside the Link URL field.

You can now use the Node and ID for your Call to Action button in your Hero banner.
