Google Analytics self-serve reporting
We provide access to nsw.gov.au Google Analytics (GA360) for NSW government agency partners managing and publishing content on the NSW Government website (nsw.gov.au).
As part of your OneCX migration, nominated staff in your NSW Government agency will receive GA training and user access.
Under the self-service model, each agency is responsible for its own content reporting.
If you're unsure who has reporting access on behalf of your agency, please check in with your agency or department’s digital communications team, otherwise contact us for a reference.
Reports available in Google Analytics
Reports and navigation within the nsw.gov.au GA have been customised to support common self-serve reporting needs, including:
Audience and device usage
Acquisition channels and campaigns
Content reporting
Common sitewide interactions (for example, page reviews, file downloads, external links) and CMS components (for example, buttons, cards, accordions)
Site search and Google search performance

Agency custom dashboards and use of BI tools
While agencies primarily go into GA for reporting, they may also choose to create custom reporting dashboards using their preferred Business Intelligence (BI) tools, such as Google Looker Studio.
Please note that:
Any custom agency dashboards are developed and managed by the agency’s own team.
The development of BI dashboards (e.g., Looker Studio, Power BI) is not covered in the NSW Government website service catalogue.
We are not able to offer training our technical support for BI tools.
Additionally, other platforms such as Google Search Console, Cloud Platform, BigQuery are outside the scope of service for access.
Google Looker Studio
The NSW Government Digital Channels team is not able to provide support or training for BI platforms such as Google Looker Studio.
However to learn more, we recommend:
Working with nsw.gov.au GA data
To support those working with our GA data and/or building custom dashboards, we share our GA technical and event tracking documentation.
These GA4 guides can be found on our Help Hub under Analytics: GA4 reporting, guides and video orientation.
Looker Studio and GA4 token limits
If you are working in Looker Studio, please note that Looker Studio connections to GA4 are now subject to data token limits. Depending on report access volume, Looker Studio charts may not display consistently. For more information, see Google's troubleshooting guide. Data security and sharing
All government stakeholders must be mindful of data security and sharing permissions when accessing government data, analytics or BI platforms.
Follow these key principles:
Never share your login credentials.
Ensure your Google account is secure (use multi-factor authentication).
Ensure your Google account is only associated with your government email address (no gmail or personal emails).
If you are building your own reporting dashboards
When using BI tools and dashboard products ensure you only report data that is necessary and only share information with those directly involved in the project. Review permissions regularly!
Filter data to relevant content only.
Restrict access via login/password (do not create public links).
Use data sources accessible only to NSW Government staff responsible for the content.
Regularly review sharing permissions.
Archive and unshare dashboards when no longer needed.
For best practices, refer to the NSW Data Sharing Principles.
